CRM Setup
Set up SourceTag with Mailchimp
When a visitor submits a form with SourceTag data, the attribution fields need somewhere to go in Mailchimp. You need to create merge fields (custom fields) on your audience that match the SourceTag field names.
What you need
- SourceTag installed and form hidden fields set up
- Mailchimp account with admin access
Step 1: Go to audience field settings
In Mailchimp, navigate to Audience > Settings > Audience fields and |MERGE| tags.
Step 2: Create merge fields
Create a new merge field for each SourceTag data point:
Core fields (create these)
| Field name | Label | Merge tag | Type |
|---|---|---|---|
st_fc_channel | First Click Channel | `* | FC_CHAN |
st_fc_detail_1 | First Click Smart Field 1 | `* | FC_SRC |
st_fc_detail_2 | First Click Smart Field 2 | `* | FC_CAMP |
st_fc_detail_3 | First Click Smart Field 3 | `* | FC_TERM |
st_fc_detail_4 | First Click Smart Field 4 | `* | FC_CONT |
st_lc_channel | Last Click Channel | `* | LC_CHAN |
st_lc_detail_1 | Last Click Smart Field 1 | `* | LC_SRC |
st_lc_detail_2 | Last Click Smart Field 2 | `* | LC_CAMP |
st_lc_detail_3 | Last Click Smart Field 3 | `* | LC_TERM |
st_lc_detail_4 | Last Click Smart Field 4 | `* | LC_CONT |
st_fc_landing_page | First Click Landing Page | `* | FC_LAND |
st_lc_landing_page | Last Click Landing Page | `* | LC_LAND |
Optional extended fields
| Field name | Label | Merge tag | Type |
|---|---|---|---|
st_fc_click_id | First Click Click ID | `* | FC_CLICK |
st_lc_click_id | Last Click Click ID | `* | LC_CLICK |
st_visits | Visit Count | `* | VISITS |
st_days_to_convert | Days to Convert | `* | DAYS_CON |
st_device | Device Type | `* | DEVICE |
See Captured Fields for the full list of available fields.
Step 3: Map form fields to Mailchimp fields
If your form builder sends data to Mailchimp via an integration (Zapier, native feed, webhook, etc.), make sure the SourceTag form fields are mapped to the corresponding Mailchimp merge fields.
Step 4: Test
Submit a form with UTM parameters and check the subscriber record in Mailchimp. The merge fields should be populated with attribution data.
Tips
- Mailchimp merge tags have a 10-character limit. The suggested merge tags above are shortened versions — you can choose your own as long as the mapping is correct.
- Mailchimp has a limit of 80 merge fields per audience. Plan accordingly if you already have many custom fields.
- Test with a fresh subscriber (not one that already exists) for the cleanest test.
